Battling it out for finals glory
IT WILL be a great day of football when the four teams battle it out.
They deserve the recognition as they have achieved what every other team wanted.
Emerald Tigers were the Minor Premiers for the men's competition and they had lost a few games towards the end of the normal competition and the Panthers won their last games.
Tigers did beat Bluff in the major semi-final and now have had a week off.
Whereas Panthers have played through every week and played well.
Tigers main back is Ray Ebsworth and he is playing centre and that will only have him on one side of the field whereas I feel he needs to be back at fullback to have options.
Panthers have Mitch Wyatte who is in form and has great football sense. As long as he is fit and can run with the ball Middlemount will be a force.
But Panthers do have Joel Duffy as the support halves and he is in form.
He does pass the ball but can run and his brother in law Ryan Hansell is back playing and is at full back. He is a hand full.
Tigers have DyWayne Rigby at front row with Darcy Darby who have been the better pairing all year for the Tigers, Dywayne can scoot ten metes when there is a try in it. Joe Taotofi and Brendan Hoskins for the Panthers have been the lynch pin of the Panthers and can lead up front.
Alex Sainsbury has been getting fitter all year and is a non stop worker. One player not to let in space in Micky Dyson, give him room and shut the door.
But Tigers have young fella's in Isaiah Huet and McIver Watene in the back and they both have speed to burn. Off the bench is my old mate Peter Harbord and he can do damage when on the boil.
Tigers have good halves in Gavin Power and Darcy Hardness and they will be tested by the pair with experience.
It will be a tough game and Panthers have the fitness but Tigers at home will dog it out and come out in front. It is a old saying but it will take 80 minutes to win.
The ladies game is the two top sides for the year and the Clermont Ladies have been domineering all year. They have really good players in Carly Bell, Tegan Rolfe and Elle Waters.
Either one can decide a game as they have individual skills of beating a player and the opposition team. They step up when the heat is on and as long as they don't have niggling injuries they will be the danger players.
If Tigers concentrate on these three well that leaves room for the rest of team to take over and some of them are Ainslee Lawrence, Mackenzie Beams, Nadine Arnold and Candice McKie. Emerald Tigers ladies are a team that battles well together and they have to work together to overcome the Bears.
Which is how they play their games.
Captain Maria Rawiri is back at lock and she can settle things down and also up the ante to increase the temper of the game.
They have big front rowers in Stacey Kirkman, Nioaka Ross, Miesha Huet and workaholic Cloe Ramsay.
I like the way Ngaire Linde plays as she is always involved in the game and is there when they appear to have no one.
Casey Watkins is back in the centres and down her side will be safe as she can tackle and can run the ball and hit the line.
Very Dangerous. Kelsie Parter at fullback and Bonnie Walsh work well together and have pace. When they decide to run the ball, watch out.
It'll be a tough game and the Clermont Ladies will edge out the Tigers.
Well see you all there and enjoy your football.
