Bayern Munich held to draw by Ukraine side at ‘home’

IT WAS hardly a home game, but Shakhtar Donetsk still managed a 0-0 draw against German powerhouse Bayern Munich in their Champions League clash (pictured) in the western Ukraine city of Lviv.

With the side's own stadium in Donetsk unavailable because of shelling by pro-Russian rebels, Shakhtar was forced to switch venues.

It had not played a competitive game since last December, with the Ukraine Premier League on a winter break.

The return clash is in Munich on March 11.

Bayern has not been beaten at home since losing to Real Madrid in the semi-finals of last year's Champions League almost a year ago.

In the other first-leg game in the round of 16, Paris Saint-Germain snatched a 1-1 draw at home against Chelsea thanks to a second-half header by Edinson Cavani.

Chelsea knocked PSG out of the competition in the quarter-finals last year.
