ALSTONVILLE'S Beth Power bases her look on Marilyn Monroe and chose pouring tea as her talent to make it through to the finals of the Miss Pinup Australia competition.

The 19-year-old beautician, who owns the Glam Doll Beauty Parlour in Lismore's Star Court Arcade, models everything from her home decor to the way she dresses on the 1950s era.

"I know women didn't have many rights back then, but with this I get to live the 1950s look and lifestyle, while enjoying the rights we have today," Ms Power said.

Ms Power said she loved the femininity of the 1950s.

"It was so glamorous back then. When you get dressed up like this you feel so lady-like," she said.

"As soon as you get dressed up you hold your back straight, talk properly and you feel good."

To make it through to a finalist, contestants are judged on how they look in the categories of day wear, swimwear, lingerie, evening wear and talent.

"For the finals I am looking at perhaps choosing something like a household chore as my talent," Ms Power said.

As well as the look of the clothes, hair and make-up, contestants are judged on the poses they can come up with in the Pinup girl style.

"I'm practising my poses now," Ms Power said.

"The judges want you to be entertaining, not like an ordinary model walking down the catwalk.

"They want you to look like pretty little dollies."

Ms Power urged people to vote for her to win the Miss Pinup Australia title at www.misspinupaustralia.com.au.
