Big Bash over for Lee after this year

AFTER playing his last Test match six years ago, fast bowler Brett Lee has decided the present Twenty20 Big Bash League will be the last of his decorated playing career.

The 38-year-old's last Test for Australia was against South Africa at the MCG in December, 2008, and he retired from all forms of international cricket mid-way through 2012.

Since his last appearance for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League in 2013, the New South Welshman has been playing only for the Sydney Sixers in the BBL.

He has taken nine wickets at 22.22 - with an economy rate of 7.14 - in the present tournament.

"I'm not Benjamin Button ... I'm finally calling stumps on my career," Lee joked.

"I knew before this season it was going to be my last, and I think I've had more fun in the last six weeks than I have in the rest of my career."

The Sixers' 23-run loss to the Adelaide Strikers in Sydney on Wednesday night means they are still battling for a place in the BBL finals.

The Strikers have almost certainly wrapped up one of the top two spots on the ladder, with the winner of tomorrow night's match between the Melbourne Stars and Sydney Thunder giving their hopes of a finals berth a big boost.

Thunder batsman Jason Roy said he would relish the challenge of coming up against controversial Stars batsman Kevin Pietersen.

The two are friends and teammates at Surrey in England.

Roy will link with the England Lions squad in South Africa after this game.
