Big crowd for big carnival
THE scene is set for a big day of racing at Treasure Park this Saturday with the Moranbah Race Club hosting its big carnival meeting in conjunction with the Isaac Regional Council who are the major sponsors of the meeting.
Isaac Regional Council mayor Anne Baker said the council is delighted to be getting behind and supporting such a great community event and hopes to see a big day of racing and big crowd for the big spring carnival meeting.
Moranbah Race Club president Brent Spark and club stalwarts John Juhas have promised to have plenty of racing and entertainment on offer with the highly-competitive fashions of the field, a licensed bar, full catering, tote facilities and a bookmakers' ring.
Gates open at 11am and after the races there will be two live bands performing at the local band shed space.
Solo artist Luke Geiger is sure to rock the house down till late into the night.
Buses will running back and forth to the Moranbah Workers Club before and after the races till late in to the night.
Premier provincial Queensland trainer and the king of Treasure Park John Manzelmann has a strong team assembled for the meeting and looks set to be in the winners' stall throughout the day with several chances in all races on the program.
The meeting has also attracted runners from the Olivia Cairns stable in Mackay since moving south from Townsville.
The Cairns stable has enjoyed plenty of success of late including saddling up a Brisbane metropolitan winner at Doomben in October with Sporting Page her stable star.
Former North Queensland Cowboys legend Aaron Payne from Townsville saddles up Chat Time in the feature Qtis race the Vagg family from Bluff also have several runners engaged and will be out to atone their close second placing on cup day with Clasped at Ferguson Park in Gladstone on Tuesday.
In the Open Handicap event over 1170 metres, Olivia Cairns lines up Bomber Miss who wasn't far away from boom Rockhampton sprinter Embrace the Pain at Oralea Park in Mackay. On the strength of that run she will start close to favourite and be hard to beat. The Manzelmann juggernaut lines up with a four-pronged attack.
