Biker sentenced to jail for using cannabis for injury pain

A POLICE search of a Gracemere home led to Anthony Long facing three charges including drug possession on September 15.

At 9.25am police found a bong made out of an Ice Break bottle in the kitchen, along with 3.5 grams of cannabis in a clip seal bag in the bathroom.

Rockhampton Magistrates Court heard last Wednesday that Long had broken his leg in a motorbike crash and turned to cannabis to help ease pain.

The court heard he also had an addiction to prescription drugs for the pain and in May was at the worst of his addiction where he ground the drug and melted it to liquid form to take it intravenously.

Magistrate Cameron Press told Long there were other avenues than taking cannabis for pain.

Long was sentenced to four months in prison to be served concurrently.

He was released on parole.
