Bimblebox screening sure to cause a flap

ON Tuesday Emerald will host a first draft cut screening of a new documentary named Bimblebox, a film dissecting the coal industry and its effect on Queensland's natural environment.

The 8000Ha Bimblebox Nature Refuge near Alpha is under threat from Clive Palmer's proposed Waratah Coal project in the Galilee Basin.

Last week the fight received widespread news coverage following the mining magnate's visit to Central Queensland.

Conservationists were shocked and angered by the comments of Queensland's richest man on the subject of Bimblebox, arguing that Palmer showed "complete environmental ignorance" following his quip about the endangered Black-throated Finch which resides on Bimblebox.

"Fortunately the Black-throated Finch has wings and can fly," Palmer told a function in Yeppoon.

The draft edit will screen at the Mayfair Hotel at 6pm on Tuesday. Lock The Gate president Drew Hutton is expected to attend.
