Morning blackouts widespread across Toowoomba CBD

UPDATE: Blackouts are affecting homes and businesses in Toowoomba this morning.

Ergon Energy is reporting customers are affected in Toowoomba City including Instow St, Scouts Way, Neil St, Little St, Ruthven St, Annand St, Union St, Herries St and Mann St.

Other streets to have lost power include Oakeyleigh Park Rd, Tourist, Rd, Holberton St, Ruthven St, Hall Lane, and Chalk Dr.

Residents have also lost power in Rangeville including at Tobruk Memorial Dr.

Houses in Bowenville's Oakleigh Park Rd are also without power.

Ergon is reporting the loss of supply is due to damage requiring emergency repairs. Fault finding is in progress.

About 239 customers have been affected. 

Traffic lights in the CBD have also been affected. 

A number of hotels and apartments were hit by the outage with guests having to use emergency stairs.

It's unclear when power will be restored. 

The outage comes after thousands of homes lost power last night following storms.

MONDAY 7.45PM: Blackouts are affecting thousands of residents in Toowoomba.

Ergon Energy is reporting that an unplanned outage is affecting residents in Darling Heights, Kearneys Spring, Harristown, Preston, Curra, Toowoomba and Middle Ridge.

The loss of supply is due to damage requiring emergency repairs.

A fault finding exercise is in progress.

Ergon was not able to say when the outage would be fixed.

About 1982 homes have been affected.

Brownouts are also affecting residents in Darling Heights.

Hundreds of lightning strikes have been recorded across the region.

Earlier tonight the The Bureau of Meteorology issued a warning that severe thunderstorms had been detected on the weather radar near Warwick. 

A storm warming for the south-east Queensland has since been cancelled.
