Blackwater Pool timeframe longer

BLACKWATER will not be getting a new aquatic centre any time soon, with council ruling out the project having a completion date before December 2016.

In last week's council meeting, councillors heard of an opportunity to apply for State Government funding for a community project, with the new Blackwater Aquatic Centre and a new clubhouse facility for the Springsure Junior Rugby League Club put forward as two options.

As part of the funding requirements, the project would need to be completed by December 2016.

Mayor Peter Maguire said that would not be possible for the pool complex.

"We're not going to have Blackwater pool done by December 2016," he said.

"We're just not going to be ready for the pool."

Central Highlands Regional Council chief executive officer Scott Mason said the steering committee for the pool met again yesterday.

"They will be looking at compressed timeframes to see when it (the new complex) can be delivered," Mr Mason said.

"We (council) have not committed to, or agreed to, a timeframe of the Blackwater pool as yet."

The council agreed to put in an application to get funding for the Springsure clubhouse.

The Springsure clubhouse is set to benefit not only the junior rugby league, but also the senior players and local groups who utilise the grounds.

Councillors said the project is viable and the application for funding will be submitted by October 20.
