Blues’ battle to contain Redback comes to a head

THE New South Wales bowling attack will need to fire if it wants to contain in-form South Australian batsmen Travis Head and Callum Ferguson in the Matador Cup clash at North Sydney Oval today.

Ferguson - very close to Australian selection - posted an unbeaten 112 for the Redbacks in his team's impressive six-wicket win over Western Australia on Monday, helping it chase 351 for victory.

That continued his run feast this summer, having already posted scores of 106 not out, 135 not out and 164 in Adelaide grade cricket.

New skipper Head also put his name in front of Australian selectors, blasting 202 from just 120 balls against the Warriors, with 20 fours and 12 sixes.

The Blues are coming off a record 279-run win against the Cricket Australia XI, with Nic Maddinson (108 off 120 balls), Steve Smith (143 not out off 122) and Moises Henriques (48 off 42) all in good touch.
