Boars bushwacked

THE Brigalow Bushwackers opened the six-week Western Challenge against the Western Boars with a 17-10 victory.

While the game was tight and filled with quality, nothing could compare to the spirit in which the game was played.

Central Highlands rugby union president and the mastermind behind the game, Eddie Shaw said it was a wonderful weekend of rugby.

"It was just a great weekend, everyone in Barcaldine was very welcoming and just so pleased they could play some footy," Shaw said.

"It was a real arm wrestle.

"There were at least 150 people which is an excellent crowd first-up that should climb over the next few weeks."

Three points went to flanker Ned Garside, two to hooker Zander Armstrong and one to Connor Maclennan.

"We scored first from a chip and chase by Storm Moana which was picked up by Adam Woods and offloaded to our speedster Matt Cole," he said.

"Then another break by Moana and a perfect cut-out pass had Andre Joubert away in the corner.

"And finally Jesse Johnson produced some individual brilliance to beat several players to score."

The Rolleston Roos head out to Barcaldine this weekend with a full squad available and everyone raring to go.
