MONDAY: A BUNDABERG man is in a critical condition and a Bundaberg woman is recovering from serious injuries after a horror boat collision in Central Queensland over the weekend.
Stephen Barrett, 54, and Hayley Conway, 30, were at the Maraboon Powerboat and Ski Club's Brian Rix Memorial Ski Race Weekend on Saturday afternoon when a crash occurred.
Police and Maritime Safety Queensland are investigating the crash, which saw two people thrown through the air at the water skiing event in Emerald.
Police have so far established that at 3.30pm a boat competing in the event at Fairbairn Dam, south-west of Emerald, struck a wave and spun suddenly into the path of another boat, causing a crash.
The driver and passenger of the second vessel were thrown from the boat which then struck the occupants in the first vessel, Mr Barrett and Mrs Conway.
They were airlifted to Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.
Mr Barrett was last night in a critical but stable condition with head injuries and Mrs Conway was in a stable condition with injuries including cracked ribs and fractures to her spine.
The male occupants of the second boat were pulled from the water without serious injury.
Investigations into the incident are continuing.
