TV show Housos 'made us throw meat at mosque'
TWO men who threw meat at a Maroochydore mosque have blamed their actions on the Australian television satire Housos.
Aaron Harley James Lubert and Stuart Trevor Mazitelli appeared in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court this morning after pork chops and bacon were thrown at the mosque on May 22.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Stuart Lydford said the men told police they were bored and got the idea from Housos.
The SBS comedy parodies what is commonly referred to as the bogan lifestyle.
Lawyer Ambyr Cousen, representing the two men, said they had not intended any ill-feeling towards Moslem people.
She said they regretted their behaviour and the embarrassment and stress they had caused their families.
Lubert, 18, and Mazitelli, 24, each pleaded guilty to a minor wilful damage charge.
Both men were placed on $500, six month good behaviour bonds and no convictions were recorded.
They were also ordered to each pay $50 restitution towards cleaning costs.
Letters of apology were tendered to the court.
Magistrate Rod Madsen said the letters and the earlier guilty pleas submitted in writing demonstrated genuine remorse.
