Boomers beaten by US

AUSTRALIA exited the men's Olympic basketball competition following a spirited 119-86 loss to the United States in their quarter-final encounter at North Greenwich Arena.

The Boomers were down 84-70 at three-quarter time, having earlier trailed by three points during the third term, but the class of the NBA stars told, as they proceeded to run away with the game.

Patty Mills top-scored for the Boomers with a game-high 26 points, while Joe Ingles added 19.

Kobe Bryant led the scoring for the US with a 20-point haul, while LeBron James registered the first ever triple-double at the Olympics with 11 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists in just half an hour on court.

Bryant drilled four three-pointers in succession to chants of "Kobe, Kobe" as the Americans ran away from a fatigued Australian team that had given their all for 30 rousing minutes.
