Break-in at Electoral Commission office sparks 'check count'

Brett Wortman

A "full check count and audit" of ballots for the Mt Coot-tha electorate is underway, after a break in at the Queensland Electoral Commission's Auchenflower office.

The Lang Parade office where the ballots had been stored was found unlocked this morning.

Electoral Commissioner Walter van der Merwe said officers were "immediately onsite" to investigate and police had been called.

"A full check count and audit of ballot material will be undertaken to ensure the count is not compromised," a spokesman for the QEC said in a statement.

"The Commission's initial assessment is that it appears no material within the office has been disturbed."   Read more at Brisbanetimes.com.au
