UPDATE: Elderly man hit by car in Centro car park

UPDATE 3.18pm: THE elderly man hit by a car in a Gympie car park this afternoon is now in hospital. 

Paramedics were called to the carpark at Gympie Central shopping centre this afternoon at 2.10pm, where the man, aged in his 80s, had been injured in the accident.

He was taken to Gympie Hospital in a stable condition. 

Gympie Times readers on Facebook reported the car park was becoming more dangerous as peak Christmas shopping season hit. 

Tomas Eaton was at the shopping centre after the incident.

"Coincidentally, we came in as this was being cleared up, and when we left, we almost get taken out my some woman speeding in a van while walking to our car!" he wrote on the Gympie Times facebook page. 

"It's crazy there today," Shannon Morgan added.


EARLIER 2.30pm:

PARAMEDICS are treating an elderly man who was hit by a car this afternoon at the Gympie Central car park.

Emergency crews received the 000 call at 2.10pm, and rushed to the scene where a man in his 80s had been injured.

The extent of the man's injuries is not yet clear, but paramedics reported the man was conscious.
