Hundreds of commuters caught up in bridge crash

Hundreds of Mackay commuters have been caught in a log jam this afternoon after a crash on the Ron Camm Bridge.

Initial reports indicate there has been a five vehicle traffic crash.

Traffic from Mackay city centre and Nebo Rd are crawling along the Mackay Bucasia Rd. 

Some drivers are mounting the median strip and turning around.

Four cars are still stopped after the crash, with two tow trucks as well as police officers. 

Traffic is currently stopped on the northbound side of the bridge for the tow truck to remove the cars.

UPDATE 6.10pm: A Queensland Ambulance spokesman said that no one was injured in the collision and that it was being treated as a minor traffic crash.

He confirmed that it was a five vehicle crash and people were assessed but no one was taken to hospital.

The crash is believed to have taken place around 5.17pm. 

The spokesperson said all persons involved had already exited their vehicles before emergency officials arrived at the scene. 

No transport had been cleared.
