BRENDAN Fevola still can't believe viewers voted him the winner of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!

Speaking to APN from South Africa, Fevola said he was in "absolute shock" about his victory over runner-up Paul Harragon.

"It hasn't sunk in yet," he said.

"I still can't believe that I won. I'm  in absolute shock. I remember before I came in (my wife) Alex said to me 'just be yourself and Australia will love you'.

"It bloody worked and I won."

The former AFL footballer said he had no idea about his popularity while living in the isolation of the reality show's jungle camp for 44 days.

"We had no idea of what's going on in the outside world," he said.

"The main thing we all talked about was how are people voting, you know, if there's an eviction here what's going to happen. It was a guessing game. Every day we had no idea what was going on, and that's half the beauty of the game I suppose.

"I'd just love to thank the Australian public for voting for me and believing in me. Obviously there's been a lot of bad press and media written about me over the period of time, which is pretty much my own fault, and I'm glad people got to see the real side of me."

Fevola pledged half his $100,000 winnings to Harragon's charity The Mark Hughes Foundation, and put his success down to his humour and laid-back attitude towards the show's hardships.

"At not one point did I have a bad day," he said.

"I pretty much love life I suppose. Every day I was in there I tried to enjoy myself. Every day was fun for me."

He credits new best mate Anthony Callea for helping to keep his spirits up while he was away from his wife and three daughters.

"For the 40 days we were there we were best mates," he said.

"He's going to be a lifelong friend. He's an absolute ripper and he helped me through the time in there."

Fevola said he is open to more work in TV or radio if the opportunity arises.

"I'd love to work in TV but I don't have the head for TV. I've got a good head for radio," he laughed.

"I'll just see when we get back to Australia what opportunities come up."

Last night 1.39 million viewers nationally tuned in to watch Fevola be crowned Channel 10's king of the jungle.
