A STATE Labor MP has accused Federal Dawson MP George Christensen of promoting bigotry when he appeared at a right-wing rally.
Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday night about Ferny Grove MP Mark Furner singled out Mr Christensen for attending the Mackay Reclaim Australia rally last year.
Mr Christensen spoke to the rally in July 2015 where he told protesters Australia was "at war with radical Islam".
Mr Furner, speaking about the Queensland Multicultural Recognition Bill, described Mr Christensen's comments as a "sad contribution".
"He goes along to these events to promote bigotry and is involved in events that are to the demise of multiculturalism in this state," he said.
"It is of no benefit in terms of this bill and it is of no benefit for anyone if you are going to support those sorts of events and if you are going to encourage people to have a view of bigotry in our community."
Mr Furner was speaking in support of the bill that has been designed to "to recognise the valuable contribution of diverse groups of people" and "promote Queensland as a united, harmonious and inclusive community".
Mr Christensen's office was aware of Mr Furner's comments but declined to comment on Wednesday. - APN NEWSDESK
