Police allege brother set Burpengary house on fire

A MAN has allegedly set fire to a house in Burpengary while his sister was inside.

Five fire crews attended the structural blaze at about 2.18pm yesterday.

It produced so much smoke the crews had to wear breathing apparatus.

Queensland Fire and Rescue Burpengary station officer Scott Marles said no one was hurt but the damage was extensive.

"When we arrived there was no one on site. We could see large volumes of smoke and you could see one corner of the structure well involved in the fire," he said.

"Then we got some fire fighters in breathing apparatus with a hose and they went around the side to make an internal attack against the fire."

The fire fighters risked their lives by going into the house as some parts of the roof had collapsed.

"There was an element of danger in there," Mr Marles said.

Burpengary police sergeant Mark Spencer said the fire was a result of a domestic violence incident between a brother and sister.

He said the brother had earlier been charged with breaching a domestic violence order and wilfully damaging property.

"He was taken to Caboolture watchhouse and was given bail, then at about 2.20pm he went back to the house against his bail conditions," Sgt Spencer said

The man allegedly forced his way in and set fire to the house. Caboolture CIB is investigating.
