Brotherhood of the Blues to realise Bluesfest dream
THEY'RE our local boys of blues, and now they're playing one of the biggest blues gigs around.
Brotherhood of the Blues have aimed for a gig at Bluesfest since their beginnings.
Now they've found out that they'll be playing not one, but two shows at the upcoming Bluesfest at Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm.
The 10-piece band, formed of RED Inc participants, support workers, and local musicians, have been working their way up in the music scene - releasing an EP, playing gigs both locally and across the state, creating a documentary, working towards an album - and this is set to be another huge step forward for them, bass player Matt Cassels said.
Mr Cassels said that, ever since the band formed, it had been a dream of theirs to play at Bluesfest, and now they're going to be fulfilling that dream.
After campaigning hard to play the festival - applying as a local band, creating a 'Quest for the Fest' video on Vimeo, and promoting the band wherever they could - they got the news at their Christmas party that their Bluesfest dream was to become a reality, said singer Zac Paden.
"We're pretty pumped for it," he said.
"We're all really excited to get up on the Bluesfest stage and entertain people."
"We've been rehearsing really hard twice a week in the back music room that RED Inc let us use - they've been so supportive of us."
Singer Luke Murray said he was shocked when he found out.
"It's about sharing the process, our life and experience. We want to show the world what we can do, get our music out there," he said.
Singer John Cieslak said he was very happy about the upcoming gig, but was also a bit nervous.
Mr Cassels said the team at Bluesfest had been "interested from the day dot when they heard about our project" and that it was great to see they were able to work the band into the festival.
"It's a huge win for these guys," Mr Cassels said.
The Brotherhood of the Blues will be playing the Juke Joint at Bluesfest 6.30pm Friday, March 25 and 4.30pm Saturday, March 26.
