Brothers gunning for a third straight

THE pitches have been rolled, whites washed, bats knocked in and Emerald Brothers opener Martin Langan is counting down the days to the first ball.

Brothers play the Dysart Dingos, who are still chasing their first-ever win but the hosts know they cannot afford to think the job is done before a ball is bowled.

"It will actually be a tough game first up. They will be itching to get their first win on the board," Langan said.

"Jake Deveraux will be a real key wicket. He is a very good left-hander in the middle order. Glen McClean is another. He is a heavy hitting bat who got runs against us last year in Emerald.

"They have a couple of strong bowlers too. Norton Thorburn with his medium pace is always pretty consistent."

Brothers are gunning for a third straight premiership, but know they will face stiff opposition from the rest of the competition.

"Magpies will obviously be really strong again. Last year they improved a lot to make the final," Langan said.

"Clermont are always tough to beat. They have some good young players coming through, along with Rolleston.

"It's going to be another really close season and it will be awesome if we can claim a third premiership.

"Joey Pratt will be our strike bowler again this year. He has plenty of experience playing for the CQ Seamers.

"In the batting, Craig Cullen, our first-drop - he has played Brisbane A-grade and will have a great season."
