AN Australian tour by Bruno Mars will be 24K Magic. But fans are going to have to wait until March next year for the American pop superstar to drop his supreme talent grenade on our arena stages.

Tickets for the tour, which is scoring rave reviews overseas, go on sale on May 5 but the first concert doesn't happen 10 months later on March 7 at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena.

Fans will be pleased to discover he is announcing two shows in Melbourne and Sydney instead of waiting for the expected cyber outrage when tickets sell out in a matter of minutes.

There is a six-day gap between the first concerts in Melbourne and the next one in Brisbane suggesting Mars is either booking a holiday mid tour or will be the superstar attraction at a major event.

Mars played eight concerts here on his Moonshine Jungle in 2014, captivating audiences with an all-singing, all-dancing, all-confetti spectacular which recalled the old school revues of the Motown era.

He has enjoyed an enviable run at the top of the global charts since releasing his debut album Doo-Wops and Hooligans in 2010 with a string of memorable pop songs including Just The Way You Are, Grenade, Marry Me, Locked Out Of Heaven, When I Was Your Man and Treasure.

But it was his collaboration with Mark Ronson on Uptown Funk which made him inescapable on the airwaves in 2014.

Mars joined Beyonce in a dance-off to steal Coldplay's thunder at the 2016 Superbowl halftime show with his showmanship drawing comparisons to Michael Jackson.

The 24K Magic tour dates are:

Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne - March 7 and 8. Tickets on sale 11am May 5

Brisbane Entertainment Centre - March 14. Tickets on sale 3pm, May 5

Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney, March 17 and 18, tickets on sale 1pm, May 5

Adelaide Entertainment Centre, March 26, tickets on sale 3pm, May 5

Perth Arena, March 28, tickets on sale 2pm, Friday May 5
