Bulk coal sample on the move

HANCOCK Coal will begin hauling bulk samples along the Capricorn Highway from Alpha to Blackwater from Monday.

The company will use clearly marked Wagners Transport Type 1 road trains for the seven-day-a-week operation.

During the 15-week project, bulk samples will be taken from the Hancock Coal test pit in the Galilee Basin, 50km north of Alpha, to the Jellinbah mine coal-handling and preparation plant, and on to Ensham mine.

A road-use management plan has been approved by the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

Operating times for the trucks have been modified to ensure travel times do not clash with school bus routes.

Hancock has pledged to monitor environment and safety performance, including road conditions, during the temporary transport phase.
