Bulldog boxer relentless to win

ROCKHAMPTON PCYC Boxing Club's Ben "Bulldog" Bowes continued preparations for his campaign at the Queensland State Boxing Titles with a convincing win at his club's tournament.

The 23-year-old fought Chinchilla opponent Ashley Bensen in the main bout of the PCYC tournament, which featured 22 fights and attracted around 50 competitors from across the state.

Bowes weighed in a touch over his usual fight weight of 67kg so the pair fought in the 71kg category.

The Rockhampton boxer was relentless throughout each round, and as a result won the bout on a unanimous points decision.

The tournament was a lead up to the state titles in Cairns, on September 21-22, where Bowes will be attempting to qualify for the upcoming Australian titles in Mackay, from November 22-24.
