BULLETS coach Andrej Lemanis says the fast-finishing win over Cairns in Rockhampton on Saturday night has given Brisbane a promising platform to launch into this week's NBL Blitz pre-season tournament.

The Bullets trailed the Taipans by 19 points early in the second quarter but refused to throw in the towel and went on a sizzling 25-13 run in the last term to claim a 84-76 victory to open their pre-season campaign.

Daniel Kickert, Tom Jervis and ex-Taipans star Travis Trice led the way for the Bullets who were without US import Perrin Buford, who was ruled out through illness.

Buford is on the mend and will be back for the NBL Blitz in Traralgon and Melbourne this week when Lemanis hopes the Bullets can build on the resilient display.

"There were some pleasing signs in terms of our ability to work our way through things. We didn't get frustrated when things were going against us," Lemanis said.

"That's what the whole pre-season is about, growing and understanding your style of play in offence and defence and how it all fits together.

"At the end of the day, we just want to see continued growth at the Blitz and continue to develop our systems and understanding."
