Bunnings to create 190 jobs at West Ipswich store

IPSWICH may be experiencing the highest unemployment rate the region has seen in a decade, but one business is doing its best to create jobs.

Yesterday, hardware chain Bunnings announced they would create 2500 jobs across the state over the next five years, including 190 at the West Ipswich store currently under construction.

The new warehouse, which is planned to open in Bundamba next year, is expected to employ 220 staff, with all current Booval Warehouse team members moving across to the new store.

Bunnings' chief operating officer, Peter Davis, said the retailer was pleased to be able to demonstrate its confidence in Qld's future.

"We look forward to being involved with more Queensland communities and offering more Queenslanders the widest range, the lowest prices and the best service in home improvement and outdoor living," he said.

"Bunnings has a long history in Queensland since our first store was opened in Burleigh Heads in 1998."

The West Ipswich store is set to open this year with massive concrete walls in place and construction well underway at the Brisbane St site.
