TOOWOOMBA burns victim Paris Turkington shared her story of recovery and fighting spirit for the first time.

Paris suffered burns to 60 per cent of her body and was fighting for her life after a backyard fire exploded in August last year.

Her injuries were so severe she was in an induced coma for 33 days.

Toowoomba's Matthew Richards was also injured in the fire.

Paris told Kay McGrath on 7News how it felt when the fire exploded.

She said she was thinking of herself as a survivor and not a victim.

She said her experience has given her an insight she wants to share.

She will speak about her injuries to fundraise for the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital foundation ball on June 21.
