Business confidence low

AGRIBUSINESS in the Fitzroy region has recorded a weakened performance in the September quarter, reports the nineteenth Westpac and Charles Sturt University Agribusiness Index released this week.

The quarterly survey, now in its fifth year, includes agricultural producers, their input suppliers (upstream) and related transport, manufacturing, wholesale and retail (downstream) businesses, which allows comparisons between regions along with state and national results.

"Agribusinesses in the Fitzroy region are feeling less confident about the next 12 months than at this time last year, with business confidence at 54% compared with 66% for Queensland and 73% across Australia," Westpac regional manager Greg Shelton said.
