Businesswoman’s daughter in alleged one-punch attack

AN ALLEGED coward punch at an exclusive Noosa bistro on Melbourne Cup Day has landed the daughter of a Queensland restaurant mogul in hot water.

The incident allegedly involved Hayley Banks, 40, who is the daughter of respected restaurant owner Lorraine Banks.

Hayley is accused by police of approaching the woman and punching her once in the side of the head unexpectedly at the exclusive waterfront venue Rococo Bistro Noosa last year.

Police say that Hayley - a mother of four - struck the woman during Cup Day celebrations on November 5, about 6.45pm.

The alleged victim is a 44-year-old mother, described as a "lovely, decent and innocent person" by those close to her.

The Sunday Mail understands Hayley and the alleged victim are known to each other but are part of different "social circles".

The alleged attack was captured on CCTV and happened in front of multiple witnesses at the crowded bar and restaurant.

Hayley has been charged with assault and faced Noosa Magistrates Court for the first time last Tuesday.

Her matter was adjourned to February 11.

Hayley was contacted for comment, but did not respond in time for deadline.

Her mother Lorraine owns Bistro C, which is located across the road from Rococo Bistro Noosa, where the alleged assault took place.

It is not the first scandal to engulf the Banks' family recently after a trusted employee at Bistro C was last year charged with stealing $1 million.

At the time Lorraine said the employee had worked for her for 18 years.

Hayley turned to charity last month, stating on Facebook that she was raising money for the Starlight Children's Foundation.

"For my birthday this year, I'm asking for donations to Starlight Children's Foundation Australia," she wrote.

"I've chosen this charity because their mission means a lot to me, and I hope that you'll consider contributing as a way of celebrating with me."
