Busy health professional has heart set on new site

AN EMERALD dentist has his heart set on expanding the clinic to a new site which currently houses a regional radio station.

Serenity Dental CQ owners Dr Shiv and Natasha Pillay have submitted a development application for Material Change of Use of Premises to establish a dental clinic at the site.

Dr Shiv said they were hoping to purchase the 1201m2 site located at 21 Esmond St.

“Our biggest issues at the moment is space and accessibility,” he said.

“We added an extra chair last year and we’ve already outgrown it.”

Dr Shiv said the current upstairs location wasn’t practical for parents with prams, which was an issue considering families made up a large number of the clinic’s clientele.

The new site would allow Serenity Dental to house six chairs and service more clients.

Dr Shiv said the entire team was excited and hopeful the development application is successful in order to create their own space from scratch.

“Hopefully it goes through. We’ve already started on the designs,” he said.

“We’re very much looking forward to it because it will be family friendly and give us more room.

“We need a bigger site.”

The planning report, prepared by Murray & Associates Pty Ltd, states the Esmond St site is in proximity to the Emerald CBD area and is surrounded by a mixture of residential and commercial uses.

The report notes the site is listed in the General Residential Zone, however due to the immediate proximity of the CBD area, and the current commercial use of the premises, the proposed dental clinic is “in keeping with the established character of the neighbourhood”.

Regional Broadcasters Australia Pty Ltd are the current registered landowners of the site which has been used for the HIT Radio network.
