Call to God... and coffee
SUZY Sitton loves a good flavoursome latte and she loves her cat. She also loves her new home in Emerald as the reverend at the Uniting Church.
"It's a pretty town, love the palm trees and gardens, it's comfortable and friendly," Suzy said. "When you first drive in, it's welcoming."
Suzy's Service of Welcome was held last Friday at the Uniting Church.
She is already involved in the community as the Blue Care chaplain at Avalon and has made connections with different agencies and businesses.
"It is a great honour," Rev Suzy said of her role as reverend of the Emerald Uniting Church.
"I will encourage and continue to represent the presence of God in the community.
"It is my call to ministry and the journey God has me on has taken me to Central Queensland many times and then I heard of the place in Emerald church and that opportunity became a reality."
Suzy has only been in Emerald a month and already describes it as an oasis.
"There is a wonderful sense of community in Emerald and a wonderful spirituality that the rest of Australia and world could learn from," she said.
"I am recognising there is diversity within the community yet we are unified, the working lives are apart in the mining community and farming community and even though there is diversity we can find ways of working together."
Suzy enjoys music and loves to sing, play guitar and keyboard.
Another love of Suzy's is found in a coffee cup as she enjoys finding all the good coffee shops in what she described as her coffee shop call.
"I enjoy lattes… I've got a few more coffee shops to sample," she said with a laugh.
