Can Simmons spark Scorchers to final glory?

Matt King

PERTH Scorchers coach Justin Langer will be hoping apprentice electrical cable layer Craig Simmons can again light up the WACA in tonight's Big Bash final against the Hobart Hurricanes.

The big left-hander (pictured) stunned the Sydney Sixers in Wednesday night's semi-final, smashing 112 off 58 balls as the Scorchers won a rain-shortened match by five runs. That innings came hot on the heels of the century he hit off just 39 balls against Adelaide in Perth in a preliminary game, giving the solidly-built opener two of the highest scores in the BBL this season, as well as the fastest century and the most sixes (19).

The Scorchers, playing in their third straight BBL final at home, won't have things their own way, however.

Hurricanes openers Tim Paine and Ben Dunk have not disappointed this season and captain George Bailey's hitting prowess has allowed him to both rebuild and accelerate an innings.
