Cancer toddler inspiration for weight-loss win

WINNERS: Trisha Cole, Melissa Livermore, Taneesha Strong and Robyn Cole (absent: Kaasha Martin) – won the Biggest Loser team competition last year.

THE success of the Clarence Valley's victorious Biggest Loser team, the Deadly Doobs, will mean a lot more than better health and looks for its members.

The five-woman team of Trish Cole, Robyn Cole, Taneesha Strong, Melissa Livermore and Kaasha Martin has dedicated the $1000 prize to helping a young relative of a team member battle a life-threatening cancer.

Trish Cole's grand-daughter Mia-Angel Cole, 3, is in the Westmead Children's Hospital fighting a brain cancer, inspiring the team to donate $1000 to the Cancer Council.

Team spokeswoman Ms Livermore said she was going to Sydney to visit the little girl and hand over their winnings.

She said competing in the Biggest Loser started as a joke, but became an important part of their lives during the 12-week program.

"We recruited enough people to create two teams, so there became a little bit of a competitive streak between us," she said.

"Our group was called the Deadly Doobs (meaning female in some Aboriginal dialects). The early morning exercise programs were definitely harder than the healthier eating part."

The group praised Biggest Loser organiser Lois Robinson, who they nicknamed "the planking queen".

"She is a lovely, passionate and very supportive lady," Ms Livermore said. "There was also a lady called Vanessa, whose dedication and willpower stuck out to us all.

"But the most inspiration behind us all is that, sadly, we have all had family members affected by cancer.

"Some have passed away and others amazingly survived. Trish's experience is still fresh and ongoing."
