FEDERAL Parliament has passed five Clean Energy bills making the carbon tax a reality after years of intense debate.
Member for Flynn, Ken O'Dowd, said the vote, which was won by the government 74:72, took place as soon as Parliament opened at 9 o'clock this morning.
"There was a lot of cheering and backslapping on the government side and the cross-benches," Mr O'Dowd said.
The public gallery was packed with supporters.
"The calls from our side of the house were, 'You've signed your own death warrant'," Mr O'Dowd said.
"It was 74:72. Or 75 to 71 because Bob Katter crossed the floor a couple of times."
- 19 bills passed on October 12
- Carbon tax to run from July 1, 2012
- O'Dowd said tax a "bad thing for industry in CQ"
