Cats claw out another win over premiers Hawks
AFL: Five goals from chief tormentor Tom Hawkins and a top-class performance from superstar Steve Johnson has helped Geelong take the chocolates in the Easter Monday blockbuster over Hawthorn at a packed MCG yesterday.
Johnson kicked three goals and was the high possession getter in the game with 33 as the Cats continued their domination over the Hawks with a 15.16 (106) to 12.15 (87) win to move to the top of the ladder with an unbeaten 5-0 record.
Hawkins was the difference between the two sides in a pulsating final term, booting three of his five goals as the Cats held on to leave the Hawks winless on Easter Monday against Geelong since the tradition began in 2010.
The Cats led narrowly at every change but the Hawks hit back with the first two goals of the final term through Luke Breust and Jack Gunston to take the advantage.
But Hawkins kicked three of the next four goals to seal the win.
The Hawks have now won just once in 12 games since beating the Cats in the 2008 grand final.
