GEELONG has moved to distance itself from intensifying speculation on Gary Ablett's return home.

In his weekly press conference Wednesday, Cats coach Chris Scott would not be drawn on the ongoing saga surrounding Ablett's potential homecoming.

"My take is it's a Gold Coast issue and a Gary Ablett issue," Scott said.

"I'm not really in a position to comment on behalf of the Geelong footy club, particularly given our list manager is in the US at the moment.

"It's really one that if there are questions that Geelong should answer around it it's best for him to respond."

Asked if he was open to a potential return by Ablett, Scott was non-committal.

"I commented on it 12 months ago, but more in the context that there was this silly idea that one of your champions might come back, would you consider it?" he said.

"Well, we consider a lot of things but right at the moment it's a clearly a position that the Gold Coast need to respond to, not Geelong."
