AUTHORITIES were on Friday destroying cattle that survived and were left trapped in a Springsure-based cattle truck following a rollover on the Capricorn Hwy.

The male driver was airlifted to Rockhampton Hospital after firefighters cut him free from the overturned truck cab.

The fully loaded Nixon cattle truck, estimated to have been carrying around 70 head of prime cattle, rolled at about 11am. Traffic was banked up at least 2km in either direction of the crash site, 18km west of Blackwater.

A passenger in the truck was uninjured.

Police investigations are continuing.
