Central Highlands mayor welcomes Arcadia Valley road upgrade

ROYALTIES for the Regions funding will deliver $8 million towards the $11.8 million Arcadia Valley Road upgrade, which will leave a 23.5 km stretch sealed.

Central Highlands Mayor Peter Maguire said the upgrade has been a long time coming.

"This is great news for the community in the Arcadia Valley who have been lobbying for a long time to have their road improved," Cr Maguire said.

"This will greatly improve traffic safety for all road users.

"The increase in traffic caused by the coal seam gas industry activity has been significant.

"For the residents, a safe trafficable road is a lifeline for their businesses, their education and their social well-being."

Santos is contributing $3 million to the project, the council is contributing $400,000 which is being matched with $400,000 of TIDS funding.
