Central Queensland girl turns The Voice judge's chairs

IF EVER there was a perfect time to sing a song called Taking Chances, stepping onto the stage to audition for The Voice would be it.

That's what Moranbah singer Brooke Schubert figured, and it was a chance that paid off as when Seal and Delta Goodrem hit their big red buttons during her performance of the Celine Dion hit.

"I've been through so much in the last couple years with being able to go on tour, having the kids, and I've lost a lot of weight, so this Taking Chances was just about putting myself out there regardless of the outcome I'm doing it, and that's all that matters," Schubert said.

"The song is obviously ridiculously huge, you know it's Celine Dion, but I was very lucky to be able to perform it regardless of whether I turned a chair or not I was just excited to be there."

Before going onto the show she researched the judges as while she had been a big fan of Goodrem's since she was on Neighbours, and knew Kelly Rowland from Destiny's Child, one of her favourite bands while growing up, she didn't know much about Seal or Boy George.

After watching a Youtube clip of Seal performing Brian May's Who Wants To Live Forever with the remaining members of Queen in a Freddie Mercury tribute at Wembley Stadium, Schubert's decision was made.

"You can't take your eyes off him," she said.

"He's not necessarily the best singer ever but there's something about him that draws everyone in.

"He's such a captivating person, so warm and there was just something about him singing that song that just drew me to him as soon as they turned."
