VIDEO: Peak-hour chaos at intersection and crashes continue

OPINION: Given that I am very new to the Hervey Bay area, no one had warned me about the Urraween and Maryborough Hervey Bay Rds intersection.

While I consider myself quite an independent person, this is one thing I did not want to discover for myself.

Unfortunately, on Thursday morning when I took a detour to work, I found myself lodged between two four-wheel drives, waiting to cross the Urraween and Maryborough-Hervey Bay Rds intersection.

Judging from my experience at 8am, with the cars flying down Maryborough-Hervey Bay Rd, drivers waiting on Urraween Rd at peak hour times should expect to be delayed a few minutes before being able to cross.

This black spot has in the past caused more serious issues than just being late to work or school as it is a regular location for crashes.

Last October, the speed limit was dropped from 80kmh to 60kmh but the traffic hold-ups and crashes still happen.

State member for Hervey Bay Ted Sorensen has promised an upgrade to the intersection as part of a $27.8 million spending spree for the area.

For the sake of the mothers with screaming school children in the back seat, and the work-goers who may have slept in a little too long, I hope this road's upgrade is on the top of Mr Sorensen's shopping list.
