Chasing minor consolation

THE Australian women's hockey team, including former Sunshine Coast player Jodie Schulz, will clash with China tonight in an Olympics classification match in London.

The Hockeyroos will be chasing fifth place at the Games after bowing out of medal contention.

The side failed to earn a berth in the semi-finals despite its three wins and a draw from five pool matches.

A tournament-opening 1-0 loss to New Zealand got the Hockeyroos' campaign off to a shaky start, but they clambered back into contention with a 3-1 victory over highly fancied Germany and 1-0 triumphs over the USA and South Africa. But a 0-0 draw with powerhouse Argentina meant the Australians finished third in their pool, behind semi-finals bound second-placed side New Zealand, on goal differential only.

Schulz (pictured) is one of the designated penalty converters in the Australian team, alongside Anna Flanagan.

Although Flanagan has found the back of the net twice this campaign, Schulz is yet to score.

The 24-year-old from Wamuran will be intent on changing that situation against China.

The match starts at 8.30pm.
