Trade bunnies to save bilbies
EASTER is a fine time to indulge a desire for chocolate but can also be an ideal opportunity to save an endangered species.
While confectionery bunnies are the main sweet treats on offer, investing in a chocolate bilby will help save one of Queensland’s most endearing native animals.
The Darrell Lea product has been supporting the Save the Bilby Fund since its inception in 1999 and has raised almost $400,000.
Funds support a bilby sanctuary in the Currawinya National Park near Charleville, set up by Ipswich conservationist Frank Manthey.
Mr Manthey said $500,000 alone had been spent on the perimeter fence.
Captive bilbies can be seen over Easter in the Ipswich Nature Centre at Queens Park.
