Chris Brown could miss Australian tour because of DV past

THE Australian Government is reviewing whether US rapper Chris Brown should be allowed into Australia because of his past with domestic violence.

Activist group Getup! has been lobbying the Government to block the entertainer from enterting the country after he pleaded guilty to assaulting his ex-girlfriend Rhianna before the 2009 Grammy awards.

Minister for Women Michaelia Cash said the Minister for Immigration was considering whether it would be appropriate to issue Brown a visa.

At least one sign promoting his December concert in Melbourne was vandalised this morning with a sticker that read "I beat women".

Mrs Cash told the ABC she could not pre-empt the Immigration Minister's decision but if asked, has a clear recommendation.

"People need to understand, if you are going to commit domestic violence and then you want to travel around the world there are going to be countries that say to you 'You cannot come in because you are not of the character that we expect in Australia'.

"This is a Government that's not afraid to say no."
