CLERMONT is set to host the national campdraft finals thanks to Isaac Regional Council's $10,000 platinum sponsorship.
The sponsorship was awarded through the Isaac Community Grants Program, during the ordinary council meeting this week.
Mayor Anne Baker said the Australian Campdraft Association national finals will be held April 21 to 24, 2017.
"Congratulations to the Clermont Campdraft Association for winning their bid to host the event at the Clermont showgrounds.
"This is an outstanding coup for Clermont, with the finals set to attract campdraft enthusiasts from across Australia.”
Campdraft fans weren't the only winners in this week's Council meeting.
Mayor Anne Baker said a Major Grant was awarded to help disadvantaged youth in the Clermont district.
"A grant of $2,500 will help the Clermont and District Education Group provide student bursaries,” she said.
"The financial assistance will allow youth to pursue post-school education and employment opportunities.
"Council also voted unanimously to support the Clermont Rangers Program.
"The showgrounds facility hire fee will be waived to host the exciting course.
"It will deliver a qualification in conservation and land management for indigenous youth.
"Council is pleased to support the program proposed by Glencore, TAFE Queensland North and the Clermont Aboriginal Community Development Fund (ACDF).”
The Clermont Campdraft Association and Clermont and District Education Group were successful applicants in Round Two of Isaac's Community Grants Program.
Round three of Major Community Grants is now open, closing January 15, 2017.
