IT MIGHT'VE taken a wildcard for Coffs Harbour Boardriders to reach the finals of the Original Source Australian Boardriders Battle but once the local surfers hit Cronulla Beach they performed like one of the best ranked teams.
The Coffs Harbour Boardriders have been celebrating long and hard after knocking over Snapper Rocks to win the teams' relay division as well as taking second place in the overall points in their 50th year celebrations.
Led by the efforts of Jayke Sharp, the Coffs Harbour team of Lee Winkler, Maddison Williams, Samahra Bye, Angela Keighran, Shaun Cansdell, Brayden Templeton, Billy Kean and Sharp was outstanding on the final day.
Sharp's incredible weekend at Cronulla was recognised by the judges who awarded him the Wayne Bartholomew Medal for the best performing male surfer at the national final.
Thrilled with the result, the local Boardriders club which operates on a small budget was also thrilled with the $7,000 cheque which came with finishing as the second best club in the country.
As well as the prestigious medal, Sharp was also handed a cheque for $1,000.
