Coffs Harbour oyster farmers ready to cook on MKR
THOR'S handsome cousin Rob Hemsworth is no stranger to Coffs Harbour.
The 31-year-old and his good mate Matt invested in Prime Water Oysters on the Nambucca River three years ago and have spent every harvest season since living in Sawtell, just south of Coffs Harbour Airport.
The business partners, who are both marine biologists from Victoria's Mornington Peninsula, can sometimes be seen selling their Sydney rock oysters at the Harbourside Markets.
Their fellow My Kitchen Rules teams have already dubbed Rob the "eye candy" of the reality cooking show.
He was surprised when his cousin Chris, who plays the hammer-wielding Norse god Thor in Marvel's blockbuster films, recorded a piece to camera to promote the show.
"He didn't tell me he was doing it… I did give him a call to talk about that and we had a bit of a laugh," he told APN.
"It's not something I wanted to talk about or have out there but it (the family resemblance) came up in the first instant restaurant and went from there."
Matt and Rob hope to one day open their own oyster bar.
"It would have a fairly casual vibe and a rustic feel so people would feel as though they're almost coming to visit the farm," Matt said.
"We want to expand the business and diversify to include an oyster bar to sell more of our oysters direct to the public. We thought the show would be a great avenue to find out more about cooking."
Matt and Rob will host their instant restaurant tonight.
Their three-course meal will have to earn score better than Eva and Debra's 46 points to avoid elimination.
Former tennis pro Adam and his wife Carol currently sit at the top of the leader board on 77 points.
Rob described the marathon day of filming and cooking as a mental challenge.
"You've got to be on your game the whole time thinking about what you're doing and saying," he said.
"It was well and truly an eye opener."
My Kitchen Rules airs tonight at 7.30pm on Channel 7.
