Colours of Isaac

FOR the second year running, Isaac Regional Council’s Colours of Isaac Photography competition proved popular across the region.

The photos were judged on originality, overall impact, composition, technique and presentation with an independent panel of judges overseeing the decision.

The winning photos were announced by the council’s Deputy Mayor Roger Ferguson as part of the 2011 St Lawrence Wetlands Weekend.

Winning the Our People category were the kids of St Lawrence School, who were commended for their composition in fun photo, The Crush.

Coming second in this category was Paula Heelan for her photo, Friends, which according to the judges, captured the spirit of young people connecting to nature.

Linda Dix won the Our Place category with a finely focused shot of a dragonfly entitled Fairy Wings, and Jessica Cash came second with her eerie photo Shack.

The final category was Our Future and first place was taken by Paula Heelan for her photo, On the Run, noted by the judges for its incredible technique.

Checking for Rain, a beautifully toned photo of a girl reaching into a rain gauge, won second place for Sally Warner.

Special recognition was given to Wayne Maurer in the form of the Highly Commended Photographer award for his ability to capture the atmosphere and colour of regional sunsets.

The success of the competition and its popularity has ensured its status as an annual event.

Cr Ferguson said he was once again impressed with the quality of the entrants.
