Just weeks after returning from the London Olympics and becoming the first Australian woman to compete at five Olympic Games, beach volleyball legend Natalie Cook will visit Mackay for a day of action.
Cook will be a special guest at a BMB Mining corporate event at Citibeach Volleyball Complex on Saturday, September 22, where she will play matches between 11am-2pm and mingle with fans of the sport.
Citibeach manager Paul Mainsbridge said it was a real coup for the sport in Mackay to confirm Cook's attendance for the event.
"BMB Mining made the approach to Natalie's office for her to come to Mackay which she is accepted," he said. "It's fantastic that someone with the calibre of Cook's experience will be in Mackay to pass on her beach volleyball knowledge and have fun with locals who enjoy the sport."
He also felt volleyball was a popular sport in Mackay with competition matches held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
"You don't have to be a good volleyball player to play the sport," he said.
"It's just good fun and great for anyone of any age to give it a go.
"We hold competitions at Citibeach three nights a week."
