Council approved to remove trees to reduce Kabra bats

THE Department of Environment and Heritage Protection has approved the Rockhampton Regional Council's permit to undertake vegetation modification of the flying fox roost at Kabra.

Council's health and compliance committee chair Councillor Ellen Smith acknowledged that it had been a lengthy process.

"Our current permit is for vegetation modification which will see a reduction in the number of trees and branches within this area that are available for flying-foxes to roost on," she said.

"A number of trees may be removed, and will be re-planted with native species that are less attractive to flying foxes."
